Below is a list of my recommended hotels in Bangkok starting with the most expensive place and going down to the cheapest. These are not necessarily the best hotels in Bangkok, but I reckon that they are some of the best value hotels in Bangkok. If you are a regular visitor to Bangkok and looking to spend less than you might at one of the branded hotels then these independent hotels are a good choice.
ibis Bangkok Siam
Location: Rama 1 Road, Central Bangkok
Star Rating: 3 Star
Ideal for: Going shopping
Hotel ibis Bangkok Siam
From 2,340 THB
Branded hotel very close to the main shopping area in Bangkok and a BTS station this is a great place to stay if you want shop and eat in the very heart of Metropolitan Bangkok. The ibis Bangkok Siam is one of the better value for money hotels near Siam Square and it is very popular with foreign visitors as a consequence. The rooms are well furnished and clean but nothing special. The special thing about this hotel is its location. For the same or less money you can much bigger and better room elsewhere in Bangkok.

Baiyoke Sky Hotel
Location: Ratchaprarop Road, Central Bangkok
Star Rating: 4 Star
Ideal for: Romantic breaks
Baiyoke Sky Hotel
From 2,079 THB
Located within an 88 storey building this the hotel with the best views in Bangkok. From the international airport it is very easy to get to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, because the hotel is a 270 metre walk from Ratchaprarop Station, which is the second to last stop on the Airport Link train service . This hotel has many facilities including a golf driving range. The rooms themselves are generally not fantastic. You stay here for the views, the facilities and the central location in the heart of the Pratunam shopping district.

Manhattan Hotel Bangkok
From 1,400 THB
Inexpensive 4 star hotel with gym, swimming pool and restaurant. Located near Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy and the restaurants and bars of the lower Sukhumvit Road. Walking distance to the Skytrain and Underground transport networks. This is a great independent hotel which has been in business over 40 years now and is known for its friendly and efficient service. I have been staying here two to three times a year since 2007 and I have enjoyed it every time. The buffet breakfast is good for the room price and the range of English language satellite TV channels is good as well.

Hotel located in the heart of Bangkok’s China Town and near to the Bangkok’s main train station. This is the place from which to explore the temples and markets of China Town and atmospheric street side meals in the fish restaurants of the lively Yaowarat Road. The hotel is on a narrow side street which can be reached by taxi from the Charoen Krung Road only although there is pedestrian access to the Yaowarat Road. The rooms at this hotel are fairly small but so are the rooms in the most hotels in Bangkok’s China Town.

Mango Lagoon Place
From 1,000 THB
One of the better Khao San Road hotels. Great value for money. It is located on Soi Rambutri which is a quieter road near the action of the Khao San Road. The room we had was large and clean with a balcony. Downstairs the hotel has a pleasant outdoor restaurant and bar. The service here is not particularly friendly although it was efficient. Other than that I had no complaints at all.

Long running hotel with good service that represents excellent value for money. The hotel is a short walk from Bangkok’s main train station and on the edge of Bangkok’s lively and interesting China Town district. This hotel is basic but comfortable and clean. The view from the upper floors are priceless. I like this hotel because it retains so many period features dating back 40 or more years. The reception area looks like a museum display.

Four Sons Place
Location: Trok Mayom ( near Khao San Road) Bangkok
Ideal for: A cheap stop over after a bus journey to Bangkok
Four Sons Place
From 510 THB
Super cheap hotel very close to the entrance to the Khao San Road. Small room but it did have view of the Grand Palace and an elevator which many Khao San Road hotels do not. It is much better than other similarly priced hotels in the area. If you are on your own and need a comfortable place to sleep for the night before travelling onward the next day this could be the place for you. There is no point in paying a lot of money for a hotel if you are only going to sleep there one night and not spend much other time in the room.
