How to Get from Koh Samui to Hat Yai

To travel from Koh Samui you need to take a ferry to mainland and then a bus, train or minivan to Hat Yai. The time consuming part of the journey is not the ferry or bus journey itself, but the time it takes to get from the mainland ferry ports in Donsak to Surat Thani town to catch a bus or a train.

Hat Yai Train Station

From where the ferries from Koh Samui arrive it takes around 1 hour 30 minutes by bus to then reach either Surat Thani train station or bus station. A much quicker option, which will take at least 2 hours off your journey times, is to book a joint ferry and bus service which will take you direct from the mainland ferry port to Hat Yai.
