How to get from Koh Lipe to Krabi

There are two ways to travel from Koh Lipe to Krabi town. You can take a passenger ferry to Hat Yao Pier on the mainland and travel 127 km by road to Krabi town. The other option is to take a shorter speedboat crossing to Pakbara Pier and from there travel 250 km by road to Krabi town.

An additional 50 THB needs to be paid to a local longtail boat operator directly as you depart from Koh Lipe in addition to the price of any ticket you book. Neither passenger ferries or speedboat services are permitted to dock at Koh Lipe Pier and you need to transfer from the longtail boat to the ferry or speedboat which will be parked out at sea.


Travel from Krabi


If you have travelled from Koh Lipe to Krabi then chances are that you are planning to either travel northwards to areas on the Andaman coast or onto Bangkok, or travel East to the Gulf of Thailand. If your intention is to travel south again from Krabi then would have been better off travelling from Koh Lipe to Hat Yai, instead of going to Krabi, as Hat Yai is the major transport hub for travel to destinations to the south of Koh Lipe and onward to Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Krabi is not on the train network. If you plan to catch a train then you need to travel 3 hours east by road to Surat Thani which is the closer train station to Krabi town. Nearer to Krabi you might consider travelling to Phang Nga bay which is only 1 hour 30 minutes away by road or Khao Sok National Park, which approximately 2 hours 15 away from Krabi bus terminal. For many visitors, there next destination after visiting Krabi will be islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao. For travel from Krabi to either of these three islands you can adopt a’ do it yourself’ approach and take a very cheap minivan or bus from Krabi bus terminal to Surat Thani town and then take another bus or minivan from there to one of the ferry port in Don Sak (over 60 km from Surat Thani town) for the ferry crossing over to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao. Alternatively, you might take the much quicker, easier but slightly more expensive option of travelling from Krabi using one of the joint bus and ferry services where the same company takes you all the way from Krabi to one of these three islands.
