From Don Mueang your best two options for travel to Pattaya are:

Taxi Don Mueang to Pattaya:

Take a taxi from the Airport direct to Pattaya. At Don Mueang Airport there is set of counters to the far left hand side of the airport as you arrive where you queue up inside the airport to get a taxi. Agree the price before you set off and expect to pay around 1,500 THB.

Bus Bangkok City to Pattaya

Take the Shuttle Bus A1 from outside the arrival terminal Don Mueang Airport to Morchit Bus Station in Bangkok. The Shuttle Bus journey takes 30 minutes and costs 35 THB and departs every 12 minutes from 07.30. From Morchit Bus Station take a bus to Pattaya Bus Station which costs 131 THB one way booked online. The bus departs at 09.00, 13.00 and 18.30.

Route from Don Mueang Airport to Morchit Bus Station

For the trip back from Pattaya to Don Mueang you have the same two options:

Taxi Pattaya to Don Mueang Airport

There are slightly cheaper taxi services back from Pattaya to Don Mueang. Expect to pay around 1,200 THB. Ask around when you get to Pattaya for the best deals.

Bus from Pattaya to Bangkok City

The bus from Pattaya to Morchit Bus Station in Bangkok departs from Pattaya Bus Station at 08.00, 13.00 and 17.00 and costs 131 THB each way. From there take the A1 Shuttle bus back to Don Mueang Airport for 35 THB.

Cost of Travelling to Pattaya from Don Mueang Airport

If you travel by bus both ways from Don Mueang Airport to Pattaya expect to pay a total of 332 THB for the return journey per person. If you travel by taxi both ways expect to pay a total of 2,700 THB for up to 3 people. Larger taxis cost more.

Chatuchak Weekend Market is Near Morchit Bus Station

In terms of things to stop and see along the way, if you are travelling on a Saturday or Sunday I recommend that you visit Chatuchak Weekend Market. Chatuchak Weekend Market is the largest market in Thailand with lots of things to buy and eat. Chatuchak Weekend Market is near to Morchit Bus Station. The A1 Shuttle Bus service from Don Mueang to Morchit bus station stops at Mo Chit BTS station which is right by Chatuchak Park and 2 minutes walk from Chatuchak Weekend Market. I did the taxi journey from Morchit Bus Station to Chatuchak Park last weekend and it cost me 52 THB on the meter and took less then 5 minutes.
